Archimica has sold its 5-fluorouracil production facility at Humacao, Puerto Rico to a subsidiary of Teva Pharmaceuticals. A purchase price was not disclosed.

According to Archimica, the sales of the single-product Humacao facility is an important step in the company's strategic focus on multipurpose facilities for technologically differentiated building blocks and APIs.

"Archimica's strategy for the introduction of new manufacturing projects focuses on close cooperation with innovative pharmaceutical companies on phase II and phase III clinical trial material manufacturing and with generic pharmaceutical companies on new generic drug development," said James Harrison, chief executive officer. "This strategy requires a flexible and multipurpose pilot and production plant network coupled with our strong technology portfolio. As a single-product site, the Humacao facility became a non-core operation."
