Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. has  received Food and Drug Administration approval to make generic Zoloft.

Pfizer Inc.,  recently lost patent protection for the drug. Privately held, India-based Ranbaxy said it will immediately launch its version of the Sertraline Hydrochloride tablets in various doses.

Several other companies have received generic approval for Zoloft, including Barr Pharmaceuticals and Mylan Laboratories. Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. was the first to launch a generic version as part of an exclusivity period.
