Israeli drugmaker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. said Wednesday it received tentative Food and Drug Administration approval for a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline PLC's Imitrex migraine treatment.

The tentative approval covers 25-milligram, 50-milligram and 100-milligram strength tablets of sumatriptan succinate, the active ingredient in Imitrex.

Teva expects final approval when the patent for Imitrex expires in February 2009.

The branded product accounted for about $910 million in sales for the 12 months ending in September, according to industry data.
