Noven Gets OK to Boost Methylphenidate

Drug delivery technology company Noven Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Tuesday the Drug Enforcement Agency granted it permission to increase its quota for methylphenidate, the active ingredient in Daytrana, its transdermal medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Noven had been seeking permission to raise its production of the controlled substance in order to meet increased demand for Daytrana. Methylphenidate is regulated by the DEA and makers of the substance have to apply for permission to receive it under a quota process.

Noven said prescriptions for Daytrana jumped 22 percent from September to October. Shire PLC is the exclusive licensee for Daytrana.
