The FDA approved Yas for birth control in March. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder occurs when a woman's premenstrual symptoms significantly disrupt her daily life. Symptoms, which begins about 10 days before the onset of period, include mood swings, irritability, headaches, feeling anxious, bloating and food cravings.
An estimated 4.5 million women in the United States suffer from the condition and about 90 percent of those are undiagnosed and untreated, Berlex said.
