Mylan Laboratories Inc. today announced that U.S. Patent No. 7,070,808 was issued to its subsidiary, Mylan Technologies Inc. (MTI), on July 4, 2006. The '808 Patent contains one or more claims which cover the Emsam transdermal product, which is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
MTI granted Somerset Pharmaceuticals Inc. an exclusive license to the '808 Patent with respect to the transdermal delivery of selegiline, the active ingredient in Emsam. Bristol-Myers Squibb distributes the Emsam product which is manufactured by MTI for Somerset.
In a separate announcement, Mylan said first quarter earnings rose to $75.6 million from $42.9 million. Sales increased to $356.1 million from $323.4 million, due to higher fetanyl sales.
