Vical Flu Vaccine Works in Mice

Vical Inc. announced on Friday  that mice given its flu vaccine were protected against lethal levels of flu virus from two strains.

The company conducted the tests under a grant from the National Institutes of Health and found that mice given low doses of Vaxfectin were protected against the H1N1 or H3N2 strains of human flu virus.

Vical has moved on to testing the vaccine in mice and ferrets against the H5N1 strain of bird flu, and plans to release data on other flu strains in the second half of the year.
