Large Scale Biology Receives Orphan Status

Large Scale Biology Corp. announced on Aug. 1 that the Food and Drug Administration has granted orphan drug status for a product to treat deficiencies of lysosomal acid lipase. Orphan drug status is given to treatment affecting less than 200,000 patients in the United States. The designation allows the Vacaville biotechnology company seven years of market exclusivity and other incentives.
